DENJIRO / Bueno!Books
What do you associate with a word “summer”? I live in bayside area (Shonan), so the first thing that comes to my mind is the ocean. I definitely go to the ocean even in cold weather too. However, I mostly like to go there in hot weather because I feel the extraordinary life more. In this photo book, not only the ocean with dynamic waves as seen in postcards, but also the one that fees the unique tranquility of the ocean, it is fun to turn pages and see what photo is next.
Banana Yoshimoto
Faber
This is one of my favorite paperback books. The beginning of this novel says “The place I like best in this world is the kitchen” – it is an outstanding novel for the author Banana Yoshimoto and is translated over 30 countries so far. The main character Mikage who lost her parents and grandfather when she was young had been lived with her grandmother, but soon she became all alone because of her grandmother’s death. Her heart got better slowly throughout a little strange life at an acquaintance’s house. There are some sad stories in everyone’s life. However, I wish meeting new people and feeling someone’s kindness make for an energy to get over a difficulty.
Shigeru Mizuki, Utagawa Hiroshige
Editions Cornelius
YOKAIDO, the Shigeru Mizuki’s art book was created in the motif of Hiroshige Utagawa’s 53 stations of the Yokaido (a UKIYOE picture). It is drawn Edo-Tokyo highway with Yokai characters and original UKIYOE, so you can compare this art book and original pictures. It’s no problem if you’re not good at horror because those Yokai characters are very cute and human-like. If you like horror, enjoy searching for Yokai stories. We have so many interesting Yokai stories in Japan.
