『JAZZ』
Author: Henri Matisses
Jazz” is a collection of masterpiece prints created by Matisse in his later years. The name “Jazz” was chosen because the creative method of paper cut-out pictures, in which shapes are cut out sensitively and rhythmically, resembles the essence of jazz music, in which rhythms are created through improvisation. The overall theme was the circus, which was popular at the time, and Matisse’s memories of his travels. The unique title given to the geometric, abstract, paper cut-out painting-like expression further enhances the world view and stimulates the senses.
It was published in 1947 in a limited edition of 270 copies. This book is a facsimile edition faithfully reproduced in 1983, organized by the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in New York. It contains the work in unbound sheets in a special case and can be framed.
